Incident on County Road 325 Leads to Charges

On June 27, 2025, the Vienna Fire Department, Maries-Osage Ambulance District, and the Maries County Sheriff's Office responded to a motor vehicle accident on Maries County Road 325.
Upon arrival, first responders located an injured male who had been operating an ATV on the roadway.

The investigation revealed that the individual was suspected to be highly intoxicated at the time of the crash. Witnesses reported that he had been ordered to leave a nearby residence shortly before the incident due to his level of intoxication.

Initially, the injured male refused medical treatment. While attempting to assess his level of intoxication, a deputy requested a breath sample. The individual refused to comply and slapped the breath-testing instrument while it was in the deputy's hand. When a deputy attempted to take him into custody for assault and driving while impaired, a nearby associate physically interfered by pushing the arresting deputy.

Following the incident, formal charges were filed on July 3, 2025. The ATV operator has been charged with Driving While Revoked, Driving While Intoxicated, and Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. The second male involved has been charged with Assault on a Law Enforcement and Interference with Arrest.

The Sheriff's Office has received multiple requests for increased patrols in the area of Maries County Road 325 and has since stepped up enforcement efforts. We urge residents not to allow friends or family members to operate vehicles while intoxicated. If someone refuses to comply with your request to remain off the road, please contact the Maries County Sheriff's Office before they leave.

I would like to commend my deputies for their quick response and the professionalism they demonstrated in safely handling a volatile situation. Their actions reflect the values and dedication of the Maries County Sheriff's Office.

Public safety remains our top priority.

Sheriff Mark Morgan
